Senior Software Engineer with Author-it

If you’re ready for new challenges that give you ownership and a chance to inspire others, opportunities don’t get much better.

Smart, innovative, and growing

What if we told you that you could be part of a world-leading and growing software company – and that you could also play a key role in our future growth and technologies? Well, we hope you’d be very interested!

Author-it Software Co. (ASC) is a world leading provider of on-premise and cloud-based products for authoring technical publications, e-learning and pharmaceutical information.

What does that mean for our customers? Our two software platforms, Docuvera and Author-it, enable the transformation of how our customers create and manage their content, leveraging a component first approach where content is broken down, easily assembled into documents, and reused across their organisation.

Exciting times are ahead, and you’ll be part of them.

As we spread the reach of our platforms here in NZ, we need the best people behind the scenes, making sure our products are better than ever. That’s where you come in. We need a skilled senior level software engineer to not only help us develop SaaS applications, but to find ways for us to continuously do it better.

With your analytical mind and keen instinct for finding solutions to complex problems, you’ll be as happy investigating new problem-solving technologies as you are working out agile planning. As part of that, you’ll closely collaborate with teams across the business to make sure that our software is efficient, scalable, and – most importantly – works seamlessly. And that’s not all, as Senior Software Engineer you will be utilising your growing skills to oversee elements of recruitment – this will include competence & career development, reward & performance management plus overall motivation of employees and contractors.

Bring your people skills, not just coding

Do you get just as much satisfaction from inspiring/mentoring/coaching a team as you do from writing bug-free code? Perfect. Software development is always a massive team effort, so along with your hard skills in software engineering, you’ll also be someone your team can count on to bring a cheerful outlook, who encourages them to do their best work together.

That said, of course, you will bring significant experience in building scalable, production-quality software that achieves that mightiest goal – for the end user, it ‘just works’.

You’ll have at least 8 years development experience, including some experience with coaching and mentoring teams and be experienced, or familiar, with the following:

  • JavaScript, or a language that compiles to JS such as TypeScript or CoffeeScript
  • Backbone, Angular, React, or a similar front-end JS framework
  • REST and GraphQL APIs
  • Relational and non-relational databases, such as SQL Server, Postgres, or MongoDB
  • AWS platform offerings
  • Agile/Scrum/Kanban development methodology

On top of that, you have a strong, natural instinct for how the software is supposed to work and where to track down defects, and you’re proactive about jumping on them at every opportunity. You’re also a meticulous planner, always looking ahead, skillfully organising what’s next, and influencing your team members to drive great work that helps get us there.

This role can be based out of either our Palmerston North or central Wellington offices.

Be supported to grow

Our sights are firmly set on creating the next generation of cloud-based SaaS for Life Sciences and improving our Author-it product. It’s quite a big goal, and that’s why we need the right people on board. With offices across the globe, generous packages, great flexibility and a range of other benefits options, your future here is as good as it gets.

We’re ready to grow. Are you?
