Rail Project Engineer
The NZ Government are significantly investing in New Zealand’s rail network. To support that investment now, and in the future, our client is committed to developing and growing its capacity and capability in key technical disciplines to assist in delivering the rail programme.
As a result, we are seeking an experienced Project Engineer to join a team based in Wellington, New Zealand. The purpose of the Project Engineer is to be responsible for planning, managing and control of assigned project(s) to ensure timely completion, compliance with customer requirements, maximum efficiency in the use of company resources and maximum profitability.
As a key part of our team you will:
• Manage project activities to ensure the project is delivered on or before the planned project timeline, preferably under budget and meeting the client’s requirements
• Carry out planning of all activities necessary to complete the project
• Contribute to the nomination of the project team members in consultation with the Operations Manager / Engineering Manager
• Responsible for implementation and achievement of the Project Management Plan and Quality Plan
• Prepare contract variations, validate that all costs and other implications have been correctly estimated before seeking approval by higher management
• Promote a harmonious team working culture
• Control progress in accordance with the project program and preparation of progress reports
• Plan contract acceptance and assist in preparation of small to medium project budgets.
• Manage and co-ordinate the deployment of project resources, including staff, consultants, subcontractors, production, development systems, contract assets, office and site facilities
To excel as part of our collaborative, forward thinking team you’ll bring:
• Degree in a related Engineering discipline
• Minimum of 3 years engineering experience in the rail industry
• Experience in civil construction, electrical and mechanical installation environment, preferably in Signalling and Train Control Systems delivery
• Project planning skills
• Demonstrable and successful experience in a business/project operations management role gained at a similar level
• Demonstrated ability in proactively building relationships with key stakeholders
• Ability to review and develop new processes and streamline transactional activities
• Ability to contribute to the preparation of operational budgets
• Experience in researching and understanding complex information to develop and implement project solutions
• Working knowledge and understanding of OH&S and employee relations legislation
• Project Engineering Systems knowledge – i.e. cost control
• Good organisational, people and time management skills
• Ability to build strong relationships with internal and external parties (internal teams, stakeholder, etc)
• Computer literacy and proficiency in Microsoft Office suite of software packages and other packages (i.e. Microsoft Project or Primavera) required as specific to project management
